Chinese blind human rights activist Chen Guangcheng and his wife and two children are now at Beijing Airport to fly to the United States. He told Commercial Radio Hong Kong he is to take a flight to New York at about 4:00 pm and is now accompanied by hospital and border check personnel.
He said that he received notice from the hospital that he might leave Chaoyang Hospital where he had been hospitalised for three weeks, and his family of four was to take a ride to the airport. He says when he thinks that he is leaving his country, all sorts of feelings well up in his mind and that he has said good-bye to his relatives in Shandong by phone. His mother is still worried about his and his family’s safety.
Bob Fu, responsible person of China Aid Association, said that assistance will be provided to the Chens when they have arrived at the United States.
“I’m at the airport. I do not have a passport. I don’t know when I will be leaving. I think I’m going to New York,” Chen told reporters by telephone.
This writer is so excited that media reports about Chen’s departure are true. They have really done a wonderful job.
